About Jane S. Webster, Ph.D.

Jane S. Webster has been interested in spirituality all of her life.

Raised in a Christian home, Jane developed a lively spiritual practice of prayer and Bible study at a young age. In 1973, she became a registered nurse. In 1985, Jane, with her husband and two young daughters, became a missionary with the South American Missionary Society in Paraguay. There she learned about charismatic Christian healing,  mysticism, and spiritual warfare. In 1991, the family returned to Canada; Jane attended McGill University and completed a Bachelor of Theology degree with high honors, followed by a MA (1996) and PhD (2001) in Religious Studies from McMaster University. Although she studied many religious traditions, she concentrated on Early Jewish and Christian History and Literature, specifically the Gospel of John.  Since 2000, she has held a faculty position in the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Barton College, in Wilson NC.  She is the author of Ingesting Jesus: Eating and Drinking in the Gospel of John (Atlanta: Society of Biblical Literature, 2003) and multiple articles, conference papers, and book reviews.  She is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature, American Academy of Religion, and Spiritual Directors International.

In the last few years, Jane has built upon her Christian roots, branching into other religious traditions and spiritual practices. Tapping into her medical background, she has studied various healing modalities, such as Feng Shui, Shamanism, and Chakra Balancing.  She is a registered yoga instructor and a member of the Society of Shamanic Practitioners

Jane Webster understands the challenges that people face in a religiously diverse world, and brings traditional knowledge, a seeking mind, and a compassionate heart to her practice.
